Visiting the American Girl Doll Store Orlando

Filed Under: Travel July 30, 2019

Our Visit to the American Girl Doll Store Orlando

American Girl Doll Store Orlando

The American Girl Doll Store is located in The Florida Mall in Orlando, Florida.  The store sells its signature dolls, books, and accessories but also has a hair salon (where you can watch your doll’s hair get styled) as well as a little bistro that will cater to not only your daughter but her doll as well.

On our visit, we found a Truly Me doll that looked like the kids.  At first, my son wanted one, then he decided against it, which was kind of upsetting because I found one that looked just like him.   If you are considering getting a custom one (which is around $200) I would highly recommend looking at the Truly Me line first because they offer a huge variety of options.

My daughter was so happy to find a doll that looked like her.   She was using her birthday money to make the purchase.  She debated on a few different dolls until we came across the Truly Me.

Aren’t They Expensive?

Many times people will complain about the expense of an American Girl Doll and yes, they have a point but at the same time you can justify just about anything.  If this doll encourages her to read and play outside discovering things isn’t it better than spending $500 on a video game system? It’s all in your perspective on it.

In this instance, she had decided to spend her birthday money on it and I saw no issue with that.  I’ve heard the complaint that you buy one and then you have to get clothes or playhouses for the doll, etc.  All I can say to that is “Um, no.”  I will not be buying the doll a wardrobe or it’s very own playhouse.  I look at it as you can be happy you have the doll or you can not get it at all.  Mean? I don’t think so but some might.  Either way, it’s not happening at my house and that’s ok.  If you’re down with it happening then no judging here on that end either.  My point is- it’s your choice.  It’s not a demand that comes along with the doll.

What’s The Difference In American Girl Doll vs a Target Doll?

The difference in the doll itself? Probably nothing.   The difference in the experience?  A whole lot.  When you walk into the American Girl Doll Store, it’s very kid friendly and the associates are stopping to talk to the kids and answer any questions.   When you buy the doll and they unbox it and hand it to your child there’s a whole moment of excitement and anticipation.  That is really what you’re paying for in my opinion- the experience.

The Salon

The salon at the store does ear piercings and hair.  I asked about getting the hair done and they said I’d need an appointment which I thought was crazy.  Fortunetly, there was an appointment available then.  We went over and looked at the hairstyles and decided which one would be best.  We also went ahead and got the ear piercing as well.  I considered making her wait and the next time we were down bringing the doll back, but it was a birthday weekend so we went with it.

Y0u can actually stay and watch as the doll’s hair gets done.  They have mirrors positioned so that you can see the styling as it’s done.

The Bistro

The bistro is simple, the fun part is the way that the doll is catered to as well.  They get a placemat, cup & plate.   We didn’t have reservations going in but thankfully, they did have some availability.

Napkin with hair tie

The napkins have a ribbon hair-tye that you can take home with you.  It’s an adorable idea!  Below are some images of the menu.  They have kid-friendly foods (of course) and some good choices for adults as well.

We chose a club sandwich with fries that we split.  The image below is half of the sandwich.  It was definitely plenty!

The kids came with an adorable fruit skewer of grapes and an apple heart.

“Bella” the new doll got to eat with us and enjoyed her own little setting.
American Girl Doll Seat

Our visit to the American Girl Doll Store in Orlando was a lot of fun.  It is a great experience to have.  Now that they also have boy dolls as well we did see quite a few little boys that came in with one looking for accessories (skateboards, etc) for it.

Oh! I can’t forget, my favorite set of dolls (and the cheaper ones at $65) are the Wellie Wishers.  My daughter loves the Wellie Wisher line.  They’ve got book series and an Amazon series as well that is fun. We had a fantastic Wellie Wisher Birthday Party last year! Wellie Wishers

The Magic Of The Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Experience

 Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Overview

A Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Overview

Want to give your little one the royal treatment?  Look no further than the Bibbidi Bobbiti Boutique experience! This post will help you get a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique overview and be ready for your experience.

While visiting Walt Disney World we made an appointment at Disney Springs Bibbidi Bobbiti Boutique.  A few years ago we did the one at the Magic Kingdom park inside Cinderella’s Castle which was a great experience, although a little crowded.

What is Disney’s Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Experience?

Remember the Fairy Godmothers three magic words that transformed Cinderella from maid to beautiful princess? This is the Disney real-life version.  At the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, your child gets their very own Fairy Godmother-in-training to give them a royal makeover.   The Fairy Godmother doesn’t allow them to use scissors, so no worries there!  Your child will choose a hairstyle, will get makeup, nail color and accessories. There is a location in Cinderella’s castle as well as one in Disney Springs.  The Disney Springs Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is roomier than the Castle location and now that it has it’s own space (previously it was inside World Of Disney) it makes it magical.

Before you see the package prices, I want to mention something very important.   You can do the base package (starts at $64.95) and bring your own princess dress.  That’s what we did and there is absolutely no difference in the experience you receive. You still go to the dressing room and change as you would if you bought the dress.  If this is a once in a lifetime trip you are creating I can understand wanting to do the max package.  It’s a lot to put out though if it’s not a super special trip.  You can even opt not to do a dress at all and just wear regular clothes.  Let’s face it- It’s Florida…hot…and humid, so there’s no judging.

Don’t forget these Must Have Disney Items to take with you!

Packages Offered at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

The cost can vary for your visit.  There are various packages offered that you can choose from that fall into every budget.  Below are some of the information on the packages offered at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for your Disney Princess

  • The Crown Package($64.95 + tax) includes hairstyling, makeup with a face gem, nail polish, princess sash and cinch bag.  Every package includes these items.
  • The Courtyard Package($109.95 + tax) adds on a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique T-shirt and tutu.
  • The Castle Package(starting at $199.95 + tax) adds on a princess costume of your princess’ choosing and accessories (excluding shoes).
  • The Deluxe Castle Package (starting at $229.95 plus tax) includes hairstyling, makeup with a face gem, princess necklace, sash, cinch sack and Deluxe Disney Princess gown of your choice (excluding shoes) … plus a coordinating boxed accessory set!
  • The Princess Signature Dress Collection(starting at $450 + tax) features a princess gown made with heirloom-quality fabrics, a crystal tiara and organza garment bag.
  • The Minnie Dot Package(starting at $124.95 plus tax) Unique Minnie Mouse hairstyling, Minnie dot dress and matching bow, Face gem, Princess cinch sack, Nail polish
  • The Disney Frozen Crown Package(starting at 114.95 plus tax) Anna or Elsa hairstyling with braided hairpiece, sparkling snowflake hair accessories, shimmering makeup, face gem, Princess sash and cinch sash, nail polish, 12 Inch Olaf plush toy

Our Experience at the Disney Springs Boutique

For our visit, I found this dress on Amazon, which worked perfectly for a “Belle” dress as well as the gold sparkly shoes.  It worked out perfectly!!! Plus is was much cheaper than buying a dress there.  I highly recommend a dress like this or bringing your own Disney Princess dress from home.  My son didn’t change clothes, he doesn’t really care for ‘costumes’ so we did the base knight package.  He loved his sword and shield.  At first, he was cranky because he had gotten up super early to drive down but the Fairy Godmother-in-training was an absolute pro and talked him right through it.  “Do you like frogs?” she asked.  He gave a smile and a mumbled “yeah.” She explained, “Well we use frog slime to put in your hair so that the dragon scales stick and then you’ll fool dragons into thinking you are one of them!”  That was it, he was hooked.  She told him it was helpful if he had to fight a dragon or if he wanted to train one.

You actually go into the dressing room regardless if you’ll be changing or not so the Fairy Godmother-in-training can show your child what they’ll do with their hair and then there’s a special visit from the Fairy Godmother herself (via the mirror).

Why You Should Consider The Disney Springs Bibbidi Bobbidi Location

While the Magic Kingdom location is definitely an experience that’s worth having, the Disney Springs location has much more room and since being renovated to have its own building it is equally as special as the Magic Kingdom location.  Plus! You don’t need a theme park ticket.  That means if you want to plan a fun day that is Disney involved you can do it without visiting the parks.  There’s lots of shopping, things to look at, and even a movie theater on site at Disney Springs.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for Boys

I want to point out that Bibbidy Bobbidi Boutique has some adorable packages for boys.  My son thought he was going to hate it and initially tried to refuse doing it.  Once he was in there and they started talking about dragons and dragon snot (hair gel) he was all in.  It was one of his favorite experiences and we’d do it again.  The shield and sword that he received was very sturdy and something that he still plays with.

Staying at Disneys Beach Club Resort

Filed Under: Disney, Travel June 18, 2019

Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Beach Club Resort at Walt Disney World

Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a deluxe resort located near Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and Epcot.  It shares its amenities with the Yacht Club Resort, which is a very similar hotel (and connected to the Beach Club).  The resort has a New England theme to it with lots of cool, light/pastel blues and greens colors throughout.  One of the best parts about the deluxe resorts, this one included is the space available inside the room.  It is especially nice when you are traveling with small kidstraveling with small kids because it gives them room to spread out and gives room for all your stuff.

Disney's Beach Club Resort Building To Rooms Entrance

Inside The Room:

  • Two queen beds
  • Dresser with 4 small-size drawers
  • Table with 2 chairs
  • Couch with sofa bed
  • Full-length mirror (on bath door)
  • WiFi wireless Internet access
  • Flat-panel TV
  • Mini fridge (dorm style, under the counter)
  • Coffee Maker
  • Ironing board and iron
  • Hair dryer
  • Digital thermostat
  • In-room safe
  • Mini bottle of H2O-brand shampoo, and bar soap

You can walk to Epcot, The Boardwalk and even Hollywood Studios as well as get boat access to these locations.  It’s a leisurely walk around to the resorts on either side, which is a nice option if you don’t want to wait on the boat.

The biggest draw of Disney’s Beach Club Resort is Storm-Along Bay, their pool.  It is a sprawling pool complex that is 3 acres in size and has sand at the bottom (which is insanely cool).  There is also a lazy river, incredible water slide and great places to hang out and relax.  The sand at the bottom of the pools gives it a very beach life feel.  There is another area of the pool that is shallower where kids can play in the water or up on the sand and build sandcastles.

The Pool- Stormalong Bay

The resort’s water slide is crazy!  The only complaint that I have is that you have to leave the gated pool area to go across the way and then up the ladder to the slide.  Disney or not, I’m not quite comfortable enough to just let them run out where I can’t see them.  Needless to say, there was a lot of me walking my daughter over and watching her walk up the stairs until it was her turn to go. Even with that though, it’s the kind of pool that is relaxing and fun enough to spend the day at.

A Great Option For Epcot Resorts

While we’re very much Magic Kingdom people, the hotel gives great access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. That means easier access to events such as The Flower & Garden Festival and Toy Story Land.  Soon, you’ll be able to add Star Wars land to that list.  It’s also a great hotel if you’re a Florida Resident just looking for a “staycation” where you want to hang out at a nice resort.

Whether a Florida resident, an out of towner visiting Disney World or wanting somewhere fun to stay near Orlando, this resort is a lot of fun!

Is Disney’s Contemporary Resort Outdated?

Filed Under: Disney, Travel March 8, 2019

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the original hotels from when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. The exterior still has the same look and feel, which I think sometimes makes it seem older or outdated.  I stayed there with my parents and siblings in the early 2000’s and remember that it was fun.  It was the first Disney Resort we had ever stayed at so it was pretty awesome.   For my son’s birthday he picked the Contemporary to stay because he loves the monorail and what could be cooler than the monorail running right through the hotel?

Front of Disneys Contemporary Resort

We are Florida residents and annual passholders so we’ve stayed at a lot of the Disney Resorts.  From value to deluxe.  I was a little nervous about the Contemporary because it had been so long since I had stayed there and I was afraid it would be out dated.   The inside area where the gift shops and Chef Mickeys is doesn’t seem to have changed all that much.

Gift Shop at Contemporary

I can let you know that the rooms are definitely not outdated.  They have a nice amount of room in them and are very modern and up to date. My favorite part of this resort though is that in the elevator, a character announces what floor you are on when the door opens.  I’m not sure why this is the only resort with that feature but I love it.

Rooms at Contemporary Resort

Our room overlooked Bay Lake and the pool which sort of looks like a hidden Mickey.  Although it would have been awesome to have a view of the park and castle, our view was absolutely beautiful.  Also, with this room, we had a great view of the Electrical Water Parade.

Bay Lake, Walt Disney World Florida

The pool area also has a hot tub and then a splash pad for kids.  At night on the area to the left of the pool, there’s an area where they show movies at night.  It was a little chilly outside with the wind but we got to enjoy Mulan.  There’s something fun about being able to watch movies outside.

For transportation, you can use the boat, monorail, bus, or walk to the Magic Kingdom.  You can also use the boat to go and visit Ft. Wilderness and the Wilderness Lodge.   Personal note, walking does take away from the magic a little but that’s just me. Now if you’re leaving the park of an evening and transportation is busy, then it can be much more convenient to just walk over.   I’m a big fan of staying in the Magic Kingdom resort area because when you have small kids it makes it so much easier to hop on the monorail or a boat to get to the park.  It saves a lot of time too rather than trying to get everyone in the car and then from the parking lot to the park.

The Verdict On The Contemporary Resort

We LOVED it!!! We all agreed we’d stay there again if the option was available.  Our favorites are still the Polynesian and Wilderness but the Contemporary has a lot to offer as well!

5 Reasons Why Traveling With Kids is Worth It

Traveling with Kids-Why It’s Worth It

5 Reasons to Travel with Your Kids Now

Traveling with your little ones is a different ballgame than what you may be used to. That’s not to say it can’t be fun and memorable. It’s not a secret thought that even trying to plan it can feel overwhelming and cause anxiety to kick in. After all, there are so many questions (an often opinions) that come up even at the beginning.

Why You Should Travel with Kids Now

Is There A Too Young?

I’d say definitely a new infant you want to be extra careful with and would probably want to hold off on traveling.  Once they are a few months old, I’d say that traveling with kids doesn’t have an age requirement.

Is Traveling with Young Children a Waste of Time?

That is a question I often hear when people talk about whether they want to go somewhere out of town.  Some feel that their little one isn’t going to remember the trip so why not wait and go when they are older and can understand. While I can understand the theory, sometimes you go because who knows if you’ll be able to in the future? We can’t predict how busy life will be or what financial situation we’ll be in, sometimes it is good to live in the present.

They Won’t Even Remember It

That’s a valid point. They may not remember it. However, YOU will. You will remember their reaction, their excitement, their experience which is just as valid and memorable. They don’t remember their first step or their first birthday, but we document these things because they’re important and they happened. When they are older and they look back, they’ll still know that they did have that experience. If you get to do it again when they are older, then that makes it even more awesome and you can have the experiences to compare.

Check out our Disney In Room Celebration Experience

When my daughter was a year old I had to go to a work conference in Colorado. We took her with us and while it was definitely an adjustment traveling with a little one but it was well worth it. We went back the next year as well and there are things that even now at age 7 she can recall from it. We went to New York when she was 3 and my son was one and then again a couple years later. They both recall the airplane ride as well as some of the sites we saw. New York is such a change of scenery it was fun to see their reaction to how busy it was and the lights and surroundings. They were amazed by the tall buildings and love to point out in movies when they see the Empire State Building or Central Park. There are things they don’t remember, but that we do, like my son’s reaction to Carnegie Deli Pickles or my daughter’s reaction to FAO Schwartz.

Accept the Difference in Traveling With Adults vs Kids

When traveling with kids we definitely can’t hit the ground running like we did before kids and push ourselves to keep going and take in as much as we can. It’s a different take on travel, but one that I equally love. I’ve realized that when we go out of town I am changing their routine and so I try and be sensitive to that. When they are cranky because it’s normally nap time, we may go back to the hotel mid-day or adjust our plans so that they can take a nap in the stroller. Typically we’re back at the hotel within an hour of their normal bedtime. We have experimented and tried going beyond this and the next day we paid big. The worst part was, I couldn’t even be mad at them because I knew. The experiences that they have and that I get to have with them outweigh the changes I have to make to the way I travel. Just like many other things that change as you get older, travel is one of them but it doesn’t make it any less exciting or fun.

One of my favorite blogs, The Chic Mamas has a great article, 5 Tips For Traveling With A Toddler. She has some GREAT tips in there, including this ending advice “If you find yourself stuck in a full on tantrum, remember breathe deep, know that this flight WILL end, you WILL exit the aircraft and most likely NEVER see any one of those people ever again!” <- THIS is so true!! So at the end of the day, remember that one fact!

Speaking of The Chic Mamas, if you have a baby, check out Paperclip Life Diaper bags. It is the ultimate diaper bag for everyday and travel. There is nothing more frustrating than (especially while traveling) needing to change your child and not being able to find a changing table. Seriously. If it hasn’t happened to you yet, just be thankful. The diaper bags hold everything you need and have a washable, changing pad with sides that folds down. Brilliant and a must have for parents.  *I am not associated or affiliated with Paperclip Life I just think they are super cool.

5 Reasons to Travel with Your Kids Now

Traveling with little ones can be tough, but at the same time, it can be an exciting adventure that is well worth it.  Here are 5 Reasons to travel with your kids now.

1. You’ll make memories that you will treasure for a lifetime.

2, Who is to say the time will be perfect in the future.  If you can go now, GO.  You won’t regret it later.

3. They’re only little once.  While there are aspects that are tough there are also benefits such as strollers and being able to keep them close.

4. You can still see and do things you like, most of the time with minimal complaining (as opposed to when they are tweens and teens)

5. While they may not remember the exact experience, they’ll remember the feelings.  Plus, years later it will be fun as they try and recall being in various places exploring.

Travel Tips Young Children

It’s important to take into consideration when traveling with kids the amount of time they’ll be in the car or on a plane. They’ll need time to stretch out and take breaks so it’s a good idea to start with short distances.

Bottles/Water and Snacks- There’s nothing that can cause a bigger meltdown when you are traveling with kids than a hangry child.   It’s always a good idea to keep snacks handy.

Break for naps.  It’s something that is necessary and sometimes as parents when we are traveling on vacation easy to forget.  They might not want the nap, and you may be up for letting them skip it but keep in mind, you’ll probably have to pay later.

Keep your routine in mind.  My kids always had a pretty consistent routine.  It was one they actually fell into naturally not necessarily of my doing.   As toddlers, they were ready to start the bedtime process (getting a bath) by 6:30, then winding down and going to bed about 7:30.  I’ll be totally honest, there were times when this sucked so bad.   The thing was, on the occasion that I let them stay up late the next day was a ridiculous struggle and the worst part was I felt there was only me to blame.

Is Club Level At Disney Grand Floridian Worth It?

Grand Floridian Club Level Featured Image

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, located in the Magic Kingdom resort area is where Victorian charm meets Disney sophistication and magic. The grounds of the resort are absolutely beautiful with walkways and green grassy areas.  The pools live up to Disney expectations as well. It’s just a quick boat ride across the Seven Seas Lagoon or monorail trip to get to the Magic Kingdom. While convenience to the park is important to me,  I won’t lie to you, part of the fascination behind it for me is the Full House episode when they went to Disney.

Inside The Grand Floridian

The hotel definitely lives up to its name.  Inside the Main Building, it’s very open with lots of plush seating throughout the center. The check-in and concierge desk is located over to the right.  Looking up you can see all of the floors, rooms located on both sides.   There’s the Grand Piano in the midst of the seating (which I’m sure you all remember from that Full House episode).  There’s also a band that is located on the second floor that plays tunes in the evening.

There are multiple buildings that are part of the Grand Floridian.  We booked the Main Building and stayed club level.  All of the buildings are nice and the rooms are similarly decorated, the main building though has that big open feel to it.   We were able to stay Club Level, which means that you have access to a lounge offering a continental type breakfast, snacks, appetizers, and desserts during the day.

Upon our arrival, we were met out front and they took us up to the Club Level lounge and showed us around. We looked out the window and it looked like hurricane weather.  It has been sprinkling when we walked in but this was a full blown storm!  In true Florida fashion, twenty minutes later it was gone.

The Room

There are 2 queen size beds, and then a sofa-bed as well.  The rooms were spacious and it didn’t feel like we were all crammed in. One of the beds had a “towel Mickey” that the kids loved!

We found some hidden Mickey’s in the room also!

We could see the pool area from our room which has a small balcony with chairs.  The Alice in Wonderland kids pool/splash area is the kids’ favorite.   There is a quiet pool located on the grounds as well as a pool beside the Alice area which includes a slide.  The pool is a beach entry which is fun for little ones especially.

The slide was a big hit too. The only disadvantage to this slide from the one at the Boardwalk Inn Resort was that I had to walk up with them to the slide because the stairs are hidden behind rocks.  Disney or not, for me they are still too young to wait back there alone in a line.

Club Level Lounge

I love the club level lounge.  Especially with little kids, it means I can get them breakfast (yogurt, Mickey waffle, etc) grab a snack on the way to the park or coming back, and have a place outside the actual room to hang out in without having to be in the actual lobby. Not to mention there is a cooler with water and sodas available to you.   Desserts at night are a plus also!  I love them because they are bite size so if you want to try more than one it’s totally ok!  The Club Level rooms are located from floors 3 to 6. We were on the 4thfloor where the lounge is located.

Staying Club Level at the Grand Floridian a was an experience that was fun and nostalgic. My favorite club level though is definitely the Polynesian.  Possibly because of the unlimited “Stitch” juice, also known as POG juice (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava).

Visiting Ample Hills Creamery at Disney’s Boardwalk

Boardwalks, summer days and ice-cream seem to go hand-in-hand.

On our visit to Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort, we came across  Ample Hills  ice-cream shop.   In planning our visit we thought about visiting Beaches and Cream (known for their Mickey Sink) at the Beach Club Resort located a short walk or boat ride across the way from the Boardwalk Inn. While exploring the Boardwalk we saw this shop and decided to check it out instead.

About Ample Hills Creamery Ice Cream

Ample Hills is actually a trendy ice-cream shop located in Brooklyn.  They have a handful of locations in New York.  Their website states they use the best ingredients including hormone-free milk and cream from grass-fed cows and organic cane sugar.  The Disney Boardwalk location opened in May 2016.

I am not a big ice-cream fan.  I like it on occasion, but typically a bite or two and I’m done. The kids enjoy ice-cream and it’s great for making memories; especially when hanging out on a boardwalk where the smell of waffle cones and funnel cakes fill the air.

We visited one evening on our trip.  Even before you enter, the lit up sign on the outside looks like it’s a whimsical fun place.  It wasn’t too busy when we walked in but shortly thereafter the line got much longer.

Decisions, Decisions! Our Ice-Cream Order

My son wanted an ice-cream sandwich cookie, my daughter asked for the brownie sundae (which was gigantic so they were able to do a smaller version with one scoop of ice cream, a brownie, and some hot fudge. ) and I had the sweet cream and cookies in a waffle cone.  My husband knew there’d be plenty to go around so he shared with all of us.

Sweet Cream and Cookies Waffle Cone

For the Ice-Cream Cookie Sandwich, they even heated the cookies first so they were nice and soft.  They also heated the brownie for the sundae also.   This may seem like a small detail but it really isn’t when it comes down to the taste of it.

The Sweet Cream and Cookies waffle cone was the most amazing ice-cream I’ve ever had.  In fact, it’s a really good thing I don’t live close to one of these.  This ice-cream could make me an ice-cream person.  It was full of cookies and creamy- just amazing!

The Verdict on Ample Hills

Amazing.  Absolutely amazing.  Skip Beaches and Cream and go straight for this if you’re wanting ice-cream.  Hang out on the Boardwalk and enjoy the entertainment and lights while you enjoy your sweet treat.  It truly brings all the magic together.

Bon Voyage Character Breakfast Review at Trattoria al Forno

Bon Voyage Character Breakfast  Review

Bon Voyage character breakfast review Featured image

Located on Disney’s Boardwalk, right outside the Boardwalk Inn is the Trattoria al Forno restaurant.   Since April 2017 it has become a character breakfast spot hosting the Bon Voyage Character Breakfast.  In my family, it’s better known as the “Rapunzel Breakfast.”

Rapunzel Character Meal

I’ll let you know up front…We’re big Rapunzel fans, in fact, I’d even dare to say she’s our favorite princess.  My 7-year-old daughter thinks she’s cool and artistic, my son has a crush on her, my husband thinks I like her because she doesn’t wear shoes, and he thinks she’s funny because when you used to meet Rapunzel at Fairytale Hall with Cinderella she always took longer because she was chatty.

Needless to say, I had big hopes for this character breakfast.

Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Begins

When you walk in there is a merchandise cart filled with Rapunzel items that you can purchase.  You are then lead to your table where you quickly receive themed pastries served in a black frying pan (what else would Rapunzel use??!) for the table to share as well as individual bowls of fruit.

The Breakfast Menu

Most character meals are a buffet, which makes this one a little different.  The Bon Voyage Character Breakfast isn’t all-you-can-eat but the portions are big, and the pastries that are brought to the table are refillable.  Since it’s not a buffet you also don’t have to worry about missing the characters because you were up getting food.  I would even venture to say that the food was better than your regular buffet line up.

Kids Menu for Breakfast

We tried King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno, Tangled Eggs, and the Little Royal Breakfast.

King Tritons Shipwreck Al Forno

My husband enjoyed King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno which is like a giant breakfast calzone. I had the Tangled Eggs, which were absolutely amazing!  The Sunday Gravy (marinara sauce) with the basil was just incredible.  I would have never ever thought about marinara or basil with my eggs but it works.   The kids aren’t big breakfast eaters, so it was a big plus that steak was an option.  It does come with an egg shaped like a fish and some fruit but they both just ate the steak.  I tried it and it was seasoned perfectly.

Who You Will See at The Bon Voyage Character Breakfast

The breakfast has Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Ariel and Prince Eric.

All of the characters come around the table and sign autograph books and take pictures.  Sometimes they will also stop on their way to the back of the restaurant (where they begin) and make small talk or a quick conversation.

The characters make their way around to the tables and are very chatty as they try and make a connection with everyone.  During breakfast, there is also a parade to kick off your own adventure where kids follow behind the characters dancing and clapping.

Verdict On The Bon Voyage Breakfast Review

We loved it.  The food was great and the characters are a lot of fun.  It will definitely be somewhere that we try again.    It is $34/adult  and $20/child (ages 3-9).  There is a passholder discount available, and they do participate in the Disney Dining Plan.  On this trip, we used the Disney Dining Plan which saved us a lot!   If you’re looking for great food and characters this breakfast is totally worth it!

Review of Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort

Disney’s Boardwalk Resort Pin

We are Florida residents and Disney Annual Passholders.   We will sometimes take the opportunity to go down to Orlando for a night or two on weekends to get away.  The previous time we were down, I made breakfast reservations for the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno.  On our way to breakfast, we walked through Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort and thought it has a nice atmosphere that we’d like to check out.

When we go to Walt Disney World, we will typically visit the park at least once- if only for an hour or two.  Our favorite resorts to stay at are the Magic Kingdom resorts.  Why? Monorail and/or boat access.  This means I can skip the transportation center and tram to get to the park.  The stress relief this gives me in not having to get two young kids into the car with all their stuff, then take out the stroller long enough to get to the tram so that I can fold it up again… and so on.

As Annual Passholders,  Disney often offers some great room discounts that you can take advantage of.

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort Review

Disney’s Boardwalk Resort Front Entrance

Disney’s description of the resort is  “the charm, whimsy and elegance of 1940s Atlantic City.”  This description fits the resort perfectly.  The resort has an Atlantic City-boardwalk  feel to it begining with your arrival.  The curved entrance with the letters above spelling out Boardwalk.  Located steps away from Epcot which can be reached on foot or via a boat on Crescent Lake.

The Rooms at the Boardwalk Inn

The rooms are well themed with the whimsy elegance of Atlantic City. The artwork in the room was all continued the Atlantic City-Disney tie-in theme.

Bed located inside room at the Boardwalk Resort

We were in a 2nd floor Garden View room.   You actually come in on the second floor from the lobby.   The balcony view room was nice and peaceful feeling.

The bathrooms came with the standard two sinks outside the bathroom with toiletries (mouthwash, sun lotion, vanity kit).  Inside the bathroom, there were dispensers filled with soap, shampoo & conditioner.  While I do like the mini soaps, and shampoos it does make it much more convenient with little kids to just have the dispenser inside the shower.

The Boardwalk Pool

One of the best parts of any Disney Resort is the pool area.  The Boardwalk pool does not disappoint with its slide.  Full warning though- if you have a fear of clowns, it’s NOT for you.

Exit from the Water Slide

My 7-year-old LOVED the slide and its twist and turns.  My 4-year-old was not so enthused.  His first reason was he thought the clown’s hair was it’s brains.  Then he said he didn’t like the “loopty loops” and my husband says it was because he didn’t like the idea of coming out of the clown’s mouth.   It mostly came down to the “loopty loops.”  I did have him go down once and he screamed all the way down.  Literally.  The kids both had on life vest but the depth at the end of the slide was 3ft. 6 inches.

Outside the Boardwalk Resort

View of the Back of Disney’s Boardwalk Hotel. Grass and water

Outside there is a green (artificial) grass area that is great to just hangout and relax on.  You can see a view of Crescent Lake along with the Yacht and Beach Club resorts.  There is a boat ramp that will take you to either the Yacht/Beach Club or to Epcot.

Walking out past the grass area you come to the boardwalk.  Disney has done a great job of making you feel like you’re on a working boardwalk.

In the distance of the Dance Hall you can also see the Dolphin Hotel which is right behind the Swan Hotel)
Boardwalk Bakery
The Boardwalk Bakery where you can get yummy treats and a refill on your resort mug!

The Boardwalk Bakery makes alot of the breads/desserts for the hotels located on the Boardwalk.  It is also where you get your resort mug refilled (typically done at the quick service locations inside the various resorts).

Walking the Boardwalk

We walked to Epcot from the hotel and even came across a furry friend! There’s always a good chance you’ll see one of these little bunnies around.

Bunny on grass at Disneys Boardwalk

We also visited the Yacht Club Resort and walked around.  On our way back to the Boardwalk Inn we took the bridge over the lake

Bridge from Yacht Club to the Boardwalk

Night Time at the Boardwalk

At night is when the Boardwalk comes to life.  There are vendors selling funnel cakes, ice-cream, pizza.  The smell fills the air and takes you away to another time.  There are also a few carnival games and performers that are entertaining.  There is also the Ample Hills Creamery which I highly recommend!!

Great Location and Atmosphere

Disney’s Boardwalk Resort is a great location to experience some non-park entertainment as well as have close access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.  Overall it was a fun experience that I’d suggest trying out!

Visiting Discovery Place Museum in North Carolina

Visiting Discovery Place Museum

When we went to Charlotte, North Carolina last month were looking for something to do with the kids indoors because it was rainy outside and came across Discovery Place Museum.  There was so much to do and see there for the kids (and even some the adults can participate in)!

It’s about inspiring innovators and engineers of the future to experiment and learn.  The kids had so much fun exploring the different sections of the museum. The Kids Science Center had a lot of hands-on things that little ones can enjoy

Discovery Place Making Music with Pots and Pans

The water table (above) shows kids how water moves and they fill and/or pour water to make boats move, there are wheels to spin as well as water ways they can build.

Building Cars

There was a spot here to build cars and then race them down a ramp! It was fun to see the creativity in building a car that both my kids and other had.  At one point one of the workers had come over and was putting away some of the pieces that had been left out and then she built one with my son.  He looks at me and says “Mommy I gonna play with her, ok?”  as if to say I could go away…lol It’s a little early for that, isn’t it?

Discovery Place Making Music with Pots and Pans

This was definitely one of the favorite sections!

On our way to the next section, we got to pet a baby hedgehog!  So cool!!

Explore More Life

Water Experiments

At the Explore More Life exhibit, we got to touch various sea creatures.

Petting Sea Stars

At first, the kids were hesitant to do it but then once they warmed up to the idea it was hard to get them to leave!

Another favorite was the aquarium and waters of life exhibit!

Cool Stuff Exhibit

The Cool Stuff Exhibit was one of our favorites.  There was so much to see and do, we spent alot of time there.  In this exhibit, you can see strange motions and weird happenings! You can even lay on a bed of 5,000 nails and not be harmed!

Project Build Exhibit

My kids are very into building things. This exhibit was right up their ally.  Creating building sketches, setting up your own construction sites next to wonders such as the Eiffel Tower  or Transamerica Pyramid. Kids can also channel their inner survivalist and create a shelter using pvc pipe and post!

All of these are just a small portion of what you can do and see at the Discovery Place Museum!  If you are in the area you should definitely stop in and check it out! It is easily somewhere the day could be spent!

Have you ever visited? What did you think?
