Benefits Of Being Organized

The Benefits of Being Organized

Organization

How Organization and Routines Help Your Day

Before kids, I pretty much went with the flow of things.  I can admit, this caused me to miss some events, due dates, minor things I just wish I had remembered to do.  After having kids, I’ve found organization and routines to be absolutely essential.  Knowing what the day will bring, where the kids will be, having a basic schedule- helps us all.  Yes, there are changes and fluctuations but it’s a basic guide. It is amazing how being organized and creating a routine can help you day and save you time.

The kids are 4 & 7 now, and when things get thrown out of routine it makes a difference in their behaviors and the domino effect begins.  I’ll be honest, I worried a little that maybe it was something I had done but in speaking to a teacher they were mentioning how their class overall was really good.  “However, when something comes up and throws off our schedule… if I don’t bring it back in chaos starts” the teacher said with a laugh.  I was silently thankful that it wasn’t just my kids that handled life better with a routine.   This guide from Vanderbilt gives a great explanation and examples on kids and classroom routines

You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. — John C. Maxwell #routines #benefits Share on X

When you think about it, even without kids- we tend to work better when we know what to expect and what is expected of us.   We accomplish more task and goals when we know what those items are.  Don’t belive me? Check out this article from Bustle. It’s not about being “tied down” to something it is more so about getting thing things you want done and creating free time for yourself.   One of my favorite tools to use to keep track of my schedule and important dates is the Cozi app.  There is a free version which works great.

Get Cozi - it's free!

You can set up everyone’s schedule so it shows up in one place.  Dance practice on Tuesdays, soccer on Saturdays, doctor’s appointments, money due for a field trip- anything.  You can break it up under each kid.  If you need a reminder or need to remind Dad to pick up the kids he can access Cozi on his device as well and get notifications and updates.

You can also set up things like to do list, shopping list, store recipes, and create a family journal.

Life gets busy.  It’s easy to forget the little things and Cozi helps keep track of that so that you aren’t missing something.  You can color code individuals too, making it easy and fun to keep up with who is where and what is going on.  It can make it difficult when everyone has different calendars and Cozi condenses it into one to keep up with that can send you reminders to your phone or email.

What Are The Benefits Of Being Organized?

  1. Makes you more efficient

You know exactly what task you need to complete without having to try to remember or think about what to do next.

  1. Creates Structure

It provides structure and sequence to your life.  It is a framework in how your daily activities are conducted so you are confident in the flow of each day.  This doesn’t mean things won’t change, or unexpected events won’t pop up- it just gives you a road map for your day.

  1. Saves You Time and Reduces The Need To Plan

When you have a routine it frees up time that you would spend on planning, decision making, and preparing.  Instead of spending 45 minutes at the start of your day trying to figure out what the day holds you have an idea already so you start “doing” right away.

  1. Builds Self Confidence

As you stick to your routine and start to see the accomplishments and balancing out your day it will make you feel more confident in your abilitiesconfident in your abilities.

  1. Keeps Track Of Success

It’s difficult to stop and think about all the things you did right.  It’s much easier to focus on what you forgot.  When you have a routine schedule you can easily look and see what you did right, how much you got done, and feel better for it.

DIY Mickey Mouse Tie-Dye Shirts

DIY Mickey Mouse Tie Dye Shirts

Disney Resorts have lots of activities that you can participate in during your stay in addition to visiting the parks.  Most activities are free, and some include a fee (which you are made aware of ahead of time).   During our stay at the Grand Floridian, we decided to do the tie-dye shirts by the pool.

It was $18.11 to do the shirt.  I’ll be honest- I thought they were giving me adult and kid prices; $18 for adults, $11 for kids- they weren’t that’s the price per person regardless of age.  I had already said yes when they gave me the full total and while I could have changed my mind I didn’t. It was fun, so I don’t have any complaints. We would have winded up spending it one way or another so a shirt they get to wear and remember making at Disney was worth it.

Lucky you though, I’m sharing how we did it in case you want to have some Disney DIY fun at home!

Make Your Own Mickey Tie Dye Shirt!

Step 1: Take white shirt and place Mickey head template on the inside.

Mickey Mouse Outline

Step 2: Trace with chalk

Mickey Mouse Traced with chalk

Step 3: With rubber bands, pinch up the section of one ear and wrap the rubber band around it. Repeat this step with the other ear and then the face portion of Mickey.

Step 4: Wrap rubber bands down the shirt

Step 5: Get some gloves and dye in squirt bottles

Step 6: Pick one color to do Mickeys ears and head with.  This is important because otherwise, they will look like three circles and not Mickey Mouse.

Mickey Tie Dye with three circles at the end wrapped

Step 6: Add colors to the other sections of your shirt.  Avoid using the Mickey colors directly around that section.  You can use them down a section or two.

Tie Dye Mickey

Step 7: Wrap the shirt in plastic wrap tightly and let it sit a minimum of 24hrs and a maximum of 3 days. The longer it sits, the brighter the colors will be but more than 3 days and the colors will start to bleed together.

Is Club Level At Disney Grand Floridian Worth It?

Grand Floridian Club Level Featured Image

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, located in the Magic Kingdom resort area is where Victorian charm meets Disney sophistication and magic. The grounds of the resort are absolutely beautiful with walkways and green grassy areas.  The pools live up to Disney expectations as well. It’s just a quick boat ride across the Seven Seas Lagoon or monorail trip to get to the Magic Kingdom. While convenience to the park is important to me,  I won’t lie to you, part of the fascination behind it for me is the Full House episode when they went to Disney.

Inside The Grand Floridian

The hotel definitely lives up to its name.  Inside the Main Building, it’s very open with lots of plush seating throughout the center. The check-in and concierge desk is located over to the right.  Looking up you can see all of the floors, rooms located on both sides.   There’s the Grand Piano in the midst of the seating (which I’m sure you all remember from that Full House episode).  There’s also a band that is located on the second floor that plays tunes in the evening.

There are multiple buildings that are part of the Grand Floridian.  We booked the Main Building and stayed club level.  All of the buildings are nice and the rooms are similarly decorated, the main building though has that big open feel to it.   We were able to stay Club Level, which means that you have access to a lounge offering a continental type breakfast, snacks, appetizers, and desserts during the day.

Upon our arrival, we were met out front and they took us up to the Club Level lounge and showed us around. We looked out the window and it looked like hurricane weather.  It has been sprinkling when we walked in but this was a full blown storm!  In true Florida fashion, twenty minutes later it was gone.

The Room

There are 2 queen size beds, and then a sofa-bed as well.  The rooms were spacious and it didn’t feel like we were all crammed in. One of the beds had a “towel Mickey” that the kids loved!

The bathroom has a sauna light/timer that you can turn on.  I had never seen one before, and I had no idea why the bathroom had a red light when we walked in. It was a cool feature though.  The bathroom had a sauna/spa feel to it.

The sink area had your standard toiletries along with some Coppertone sunblock, softening foot rub, and a toothbrush.

We found some hidden Mickey’s in the room also!

We could see the pool area from our room which has a small balcony with chairs.  The Alice in Wonderland kids pool/splash area is the kids’ favorite.   There is a quiet pool located on the grounds as well as a pool beside the Alice area which includes a slide.  The pool is a beach entry which is fun for little ones especially.

The slide was a big hit too. The only disadvantage to this slide from the one at the Boardwalk Inn Resort was that I had to walk up with them to the slide because the stairs are hidden behind rocks.  Disney or not, for me they are still too young to wait back there alone in a line.

Club Level Lounge

I love the club level lounge.  Especially with little kids, it means I can get them breakfast (yogurt, Mickey waffle, etc) grab a snack on the way to the park or coming back, and have a place outside the actual room to hang out in without having to be in the actual lobby. Not to mention there is a cooler with water and sodas available to you.   Desserts at night are a plus also!  I love them because they are bite size so if you want to try more than one it’s totally ok!  The Club Level rooms are located from floors 3 to 6. We were on the 4thfloor where the lounge is located.

Some of the offerings at the lounge included:

Staying Club Level at the Grand Floridian a was an experience that was fun and nostalgic. My favorite club level though is definitely the Polynesian.  Possibly because of the unlimited “Stitch” juice, also known as POG juice (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava).

Visiting Ample Hills Creamery at Disney’s Boardwalk

Boardwalks, summer days and ice-cream seem to go hand-in-hand.

On our visit to Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort, we came across  Ample Hills  ice-cream shop.   In planning our visit we thought about visiting Beaches and Cream (known for their Mickey Sink) at the Beach Club Resort located a short walk or boat ride across the way from the Boardwalk Inn. While exploring the Boardwalk we saw this shop and decided to check it out instead.

About Ample Hills Creamery Ice Cream

Ample Hills is actually a trendy ice-cream shop located in Brooklyn.  They have a handful of locations in New York.  Their website states they use the best ingredients including hormone-free milk and cream from grass-fed cows and organic cane sugar.  The Disney Boardwalk location opened in May 2016.

I am not a big ice-cream fan.  I like it on occasion, but typically a bite or two and I’m done. The kids enjoy ice-cream and it’s great for making memories; especially when hanging out on a boardwalk where the smell of waffle cones and funnel cakes fill the air.

We visited one evening on our trip.  Even before you enter, the lit up sign on the outside looks like it’s a whimsical fun place.  It wasn’t too busy when we walked in but shortly thereafter the line got much longer.

Decisions, Decisions! Our Ice-Cream Order

My son wanted an ice-cream sandwich cookie, my daughter asked for the brownie sundae (which was gigantic so they were able to do a smaller version with one scoop of ice cream, a brownie, and some hot fudge. ) and I had the sweet cream and cookies in a waffle cone.  My husband knew there’d be plenty to go around so he shared with all of us.

For the Ice-Cream Cookie Sandwich, they even heated the cookies first so they were nice and soft.  They also heated the brownie for the sundae also.   This may seem like a small detail but it really isn’t when it comes down to the taste of it.

The Sweet Cream and Cookies waffle cone was the most amazing ice-cream I’ve ever had.  In fact, it’s a really good thing I don’t live close to one of these.  This ice-cream could make me an ice-cream person.  It was full of cookies and creamy- just amazing!

The Verdict on Ample Hills

Amazing.  Absolutely amazing.  Skip Beaches and Cream and go straight for this if you’re wanting ice-cream.  Hang out on the Boardwalk and enjoy the entertainment and lights while you enjoy your sweet treat.  It truly brings all the magic together.

Bon Voyage Character Breakfast Review at Trattoria al Forno

Bon Voyage Character Breakfast  Review

Bon Voyage character breakfast review Featured image

Located on Disney’s Boardwalk, right outside the Boardwalk Inn is the Trattoria al Forno restaurant.   Since April 2017 it has become a character breakfast spot hosting the Bon Voyage Character Breakfast.  In my family, it’s better known as the “Rapunzel Breakfast.”

Rapunzel Character Meal

I’ll let you know up front…We’re big Rapunzel fans, in fact, I’d even dare to say she’s our favorite princess.  My 7-year-old daughter thinks she’s cool and artistic, my son has a crush on her, my husband thinks I like her because she doesn’t wear shoes, and he thinks she’s funny because when you used to meet Rapunzel at Fairytale Hall with Cinderella she always took longer because she was chatty.

Needless to say, I had big hopes for this character breakfast.

Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Begins

When you walk in there is a merchandise cart filled with Rapunzel items that you can purchase.  You are then lead to your table where you quickly receive themed pastries served in a black frying pan (what else would Rapunzel use??!) for the table to share as well as individual bowls of fruit.

The Breakfast Menu

Most character meals are a buffet, which makes this one a little different.  The Bon Voyage Character Breakfast isn’t all-you-can-eat but the portions are big, and the pastries that are brought to the table are refillable.  Since it’s not a buffet you also don’t have to worry about missing the characters because you were up getting food.  I would even venture to say that the food was better than your regular buffet line up.

Breakfast Menu for Bon Voyage Breakfast

Kids Menu for Breakfast

We tried King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno, Tangled Eggs, and the Little Royal Breakfast.

King Tritons Shipwreck Al Forno

My husband enjoyed King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno which is like a giant breakfast calzone. I had the Tangled Eggs, which were absolutely amazing!  The Sunday Gravy (marinara sauce) with the basil was just incredible.  I would have never ever thought about marinara or basil with my eggs but it works.   The kids aren’t big breakfast eaters, so it was a big plus that steak was an option.  It does come with an egg shaped like a fish and some fruit but they both just ate the steak.  I tried it and it was seasoned perfectly.

Who You Will See at The Bon Voyage Character Breakfast

The breakfast has Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Ariel and Prince Eric.

All of the characters come around the table and sign autograph books and take pictures.  Sometimes they will also stop on their way to the back of the restaurant (where they begin) and make small talk or a quick conversation.

Rapunzel and Flynn Rider stopping for a quick conversation
Rapunzel and Flynn stop for a quick conversation about the princess hat.

The characters make their way around to the tables and are very chatty as they try and make a connection with everyone.  During breakfast, there is also a parade to kick off your own adventure where kids follow behind the characters dancing and clapping.

Verdict On The Bon Voyage Breakfast Review

We loved it.  The food was great and the characters are a lot of fun.  It will definitely be somewhere that we try again.    It is $34/adult  and $20/child (ages 3-9).  There is a passholder discount available, and they do participate in the Disney Dining Plan.  On this trip, we used the Disney Dining Plan which saved us a lot!   If you’re looking for great food and characters this breakfast is totally worth it!

Review of Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort

Disney’s Boardwalk Resort Pin

We are Florida residents and Disney Annual Passholders.   We will sometimes take the opportunity to go down to Orlando for a night or two on weekends to get away.  The previous time we were down, I made breakfast reservations for the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno.  On our way to breakfast, we walked through Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort and thought it has a nice atmosphere that we’d like to check out.

When we go to Walt Disney World, we will typically visit the park at least once- if only for an hour or two.  Our favorite resorts to stay at are the Magic Kingdom resorts.  Why? Monorail and/or boat access.  This means I can skip the transportation center and tram to get to the park.  The stress relief this gives me in not having to get two young kids into the car with all their stuff, then take out the stroller long enough to get to the tram so that I can fold it up again… and so on.

As Annual Passholders,  Disney often offers some great room discounts that you can take advantage of.

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort Review

Disney’s Boardwalk Resort Front Entrance

Disney’s description of the resort is  “the charm, whimsy and elegance of 1940s Atlantic City.”  This description fits the resort perfectly.  The resort has an Atlantic City-boardwalk  feel to it begining with your arrival.  The curved entrance with the letters above spelling out Boardwalk.  Located steps away from Epcot which can be reached on foot or via a boat on Crescent Lake.

The Rooms at the Boardwalk Inn

The rooms are well themed with the whimsy elegance of Atlantic City. The artwork in the room was all continued the Atlantic City-Disney tie-in theme.

We were in a 2nd floor Garden View room.   You actually come in on the second floor from the lobby.   The balcony view room was nice and peaceful feeling.

The bathrooms came with the standard two sinks outside the bathroom with toiletries (mouthwash, sun lotion, vanity kit).  Inside the bathroom, there were dispensers filled with soap, shampoo & conditioner.  While I do like the mini soaps, and shampoos it does make it much more convenient with little kids to just have the dispenser inside the shower.

The Boardwalk Pool

One of the best parts of any Disney Resort is the pool area.  The Boardwalk pool does not disappoint with its slide.  Full warning though- if you have a fear of clowns, it’s NOT for you.

Exit from the Water Slide

My 7-year-old LOVED the slide and its twist and turns.  My 4-year-old was not so enthused.  His first reason was he thought the clown’s hair was it’s brains.  Then he said he didn’t like the “loopty loops” and my husband says it was because he didn’t like the idea of coming out of the clown’s mouth.   It mostly came down to the “loopty loops.”  I did have him go down once and he screamed all the way down.  Literally.  The kids both had on life vest but the depth at the end of the slide was 3ft. 6 inches.

Outside the Boardwalk Resort

View of the Back of Disney’s Boardwalk Hotel. Grass and water

Outside there is a green (artificial) grass area that is great to just hangout and relax on.  You can see a view of Crescent Lake along with the Yacht and Beach Club resorts.  There is a boat ramp that will take you to either the Yacht/Beach Club or to Epcot.

Walking out past the grass area you come to the boardwalk.  Disney has done a great job of making you feel like you’re on a working boardwalk.

In the distance of the Dance Hall you can also see the Dolphin Hotel which is right behind the Swan Hotel)
Boardwalk Bakery
The Boardwalk Bakery where you can get yummy treats and a refill on your resort mug!

The Boardwalk Bakery makes alot of the breads/desserts for the hotels located on the Boardwalk.  It is also where you get your resort mug refilled (typically done at the quick service locations inside the various resorts).

Walking the Boardwalk

We walked to Epcot from the hotel and even came across a furry friend! There’s always a good chance you’ll see one of these little bunnies around.

Bunny on grass at Disneys Boardwalk

We also visited the Yacht Club Resort and walked around.  On our way back to the Boardwalk Inn we took the bridge over the lake

Night Time at the Boardwalk

At night is when the Boardwalk comes to life.  There are vendors selling funnel cakes, ice-cream, pizza.  The smell fills the air and takes you away to another time.  There are also a few carnival games and performers that are entertaining.  There is also the Ample Hills Creamery which I highly recommend!!

Great Location and Atmosphere

Disney’s Boardwalk Resort is a great location to experience some non-park entertainment as well as have close access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.  Overall it was a fun experience that I’d suggest trying out!

Wellie Wisher Birthday Party

Wellie Wisher Birthday Celebration

Wellie Wisher Birthday Celebration

I love throwing parties, especially parties for my kids.  Even if it comes down to just us being there, we enjoy creating a special fun environment for their birthdays.   For my daughters 7th birthday she asked for it to be Wellie Wishers.  A Wellie Wisher birthday party sounds easy enough, right?   Not exactly.

I found one example of a party online and almost nothing different through Pinterest.  I did find another mom in a facebook group who had recently had a WellieWisher party for her daughter (coincidentally 7 also).   It was just very odd because I honestly thought there would be more.

The Wellie Wishers

The Wellie Wishers, if you aren’t familiar with them, are (as described on the American Girl website)  a sweet and silly group of girls who each have the same big, bright wish: to be a good friend.  They love playing outdoors as well as playing pretend and putting on shows.  There are disagreements that they find a way to work through.  The message of the show is a very good one.

Wellie Wisher Girls

Wellie Wisher Birthday Party

While I’m not typically a “party in a box” kind of person it can be very helpful especially when looking for ideas.  There were no Wellie Wisher plates, cups, etc.  Nada. Nothing for Wellie Wisher Party.

So, I made of list of everything that reminded me of the Wellie Wishers.  Colors, things, pictures- whatever I could think of.  For colors, I focused in on Camille (the Wellie wisher on the right above) on the  I also searched the web for Wellie Wisher material.   I did come across a few good finds!

American Girl Publishing had a digital event kit which included this printable activity book.  I cut the pages, stapled the corner then hole punched them and added a ribbon.

There was also a design your own wellie which I used to put on the tables with some crayons so the kids could design their very own boot!

Wellie Wisher Birthday Party Table Decorations with flower tablecloth, fresh flowers and crowns

The tablecloth above I ordered because of the flowers, it reminded me of something you may see at a garden party. ThePaper Crowns are from Target.  The Wellie Wisher Clubhouse in the background was on sale (YAY!) 50% off at American Girl when I ordered it.

What’s a garden party without flowers?  I ordered some tissue flowers from both Amazon and Shop Sweet Lulu.

We did a “mini” candy bar because I knew that I would likely be left with the majority of the candy.  People have a way of sneaking away without it.  We just refilled them as needed and it worked out great.

Cake and Cupcakes

I visited Toys R Us and found these Mega Construx Wellie Wisher Dolls on sale, there were missing one (which of course my kid notices off the bat on the cake), but they worked out perfectly.

I used her Camille doll as decoration, and had bought her the Emerson doll for her birthday but used it as party decor as well.   If there’s one thing I’ve learned is- you can use their favorite toys to tie in to decorations!

The balloons are from Shop Sweet Lulu, it was the Mermaid Mix Balloon collection (inspired by Camille). The #7 Balloon was from my local Publix.  Happy Birthday Plates and Napkins are from Amazon.

Using my Cricut I made some labels and stickers to cut for clear plastic cups.   To go with these, I purchased a pack of wacky straws that the kids loved!

The party went off great! Friends and family were there and everyone had a good time!  It took a lot of thought but was well worth it.

Up Up and Away

It went off pretty much without a hitch.  We had originally planned on having it outside, but there was a high chance of rain so we quickly changed our plans to have it inside.  It still worked out well though and the birthday girl was happy which was our ultimate goal.

Do you have a favorite birthday party theme? I’d love to hear about it!

Disney DIY- Alice in Wonderland Table

Disney DIY- Alice in Wonderland Table

alice in wonderland

I am a big Alice in Wonderland Fan.  I love the colors and the adventure in the story. Recently, someone had given us two solid wood doors but we didn’t have a use for them so my husband was going to put them out by the road.  I half-jokingly said, “keep one, we can make a table out of it!”  After talking about it, we decided to go for it and make a Disney DIY Alice in Wonderland table for our patio.

The door is a solid oak door.  We painted it white and then bought some boards to fill in sections of the door. We wanted to keep it simple so we decided to go with gray at the ends and white everywhere else.

Cricut DIY Disney’s Alice in Wonderland

I used my Cricut to help me with the DIY Alice in Wonderland pieces and cut out outdoor vinyl shapes to decorate the door with.  I found some great Alice in Wonderland .svg files and converted a few of my own also.

The table would not have been possible to do I don’t think without the Cricut.  The Cricut Design Space lets you not only upload .svg files but also lets you upload and edit your own files as well.  This is what really made me upgrade from my Cricut Expressions to the Cricut Explore Air.  I have the Wild Orchid one and love it.

We used Modge Podge to put some paper down on the two  middle boards and in the center have a quote

We used a holographic vinyl for some of the words to “highlight” them.  Although they look light in the picture, they actually show up great- especially when the sun hits it.  They shimmer nicely when the light hits.

To hang over the table, we created a frame with flowers hanging down from it.  We got the idea from walking inside a Kuhn flower shop where they had a display.   It consists of a wood frame, adding wiring in it, and then some artificial flowers from Michaels.  Then we added some colored patio bulb lights that hang around the side of the frame.

My Mickey Swirl at the end of the Down The Rabbit Hole Quote shows up great in the picture above.  I wanted to add in a “hidden Mickey” of sorts as an added homage to our Disney love.  It’s becoming a thing at our house to find hidden Mickeys.

It turned out great and was a lot of fun to get creative with.  I let the kids help decide which images we should use and they even helped with applying them.  The application part was a little more tricky for them, but we stuck with the simple pieces, like the teapots.

To finish it off, we made a template of the door to have glass cut so that it will be covered.  We also purchased an outdoor table cover to keep it out of the weather when it’s not being used.

It didn’t take long at all to get the whole project done. I’m so glad we decided not to throw it out.  Next, I want to throw an Alice  Tea Party!  I have some decorations leftover from our Alice Babyshower that can completely be reused for a party.

Have you ever used an old door to make something different out of it like a table?

These tools are SO helpful!! I’ve tried to do the weed the vinyl that I cut with my Cricut without them and it’s a huge hassle and sometimes absolute fail.

10 Great 4th of July Books For Kids

4th of July Books for kids

The Fourth of July is right around the corner and what better way to encourage summer reading than with books that talk about the 4th?  It’s a great way to help them understand why we celebrate as well as encouraging them to read.

It’s been proven than reading helps kids in many ways. From helping to expand vocabulary,  better comphrension, to more confidence- there are multiple positive results from reading.   To make reading feel less of a chore it can be helpful to just work on having them read anything.  Whether it’s a sign, a joke, a menu- it all adds up.  There’s a great article- 23 Reasons to Encourage Your Child To Read that goes further in depth on the benefits of reading.

Using books that explain the holiday we are celebrating is a great way to get kids to enjoy reading.  Even if they are not old enough yet to acually read themsleves the process of reading the book to them and pointing out colors, shapes, etc can help in their comphrension.

Here is a list of great 4th of July Books For Kids
